Welcome to I-GDB (IGME GeoDataBase)

I-GDB is the database of the Greek Geological Survey (Institute of Geology and Mineral Exploration, IGME) for shallow geophysical data. The database is established in 2008 and developed for the needs of the EU project GEOMIND (www.geomind.eu, Geophysical Multilingual Internet-Driven information Service). The database is under continuous development. At the moment, the database supports resistivity and gravity data, metadata and raw data. All information on data acquisition, instrumentation, coordinates of point measurements, depth of penetration etc are stored in the metadata files. Resistivity raw data are in form of MS excel sheets with the corresponding plotted log – log graphs while the gravity measurements are only in excel sheets.

Project Objectives

The main objective of this database was to archive and catalogue existing geophysical data acquired in the past by the Central Macedonia branch office of the IGME. A continuing focus is to update databases with old measured and newly collected data. The project focuses on two areas: the gravity database and the resistivity database.

Access to data

Either from http://www.igme.gr or from http://thes.igme.gr web site you can see the existing metadata datasets by searching:

  1. type of measurement
  2. regions (where there are measurements),
  3. year of measurements and
  4. Geological map sheet (where there are measurements).

Background

I-GDB was established by the Institute of Geology and Mineral Exploration (IGME). The database is hosted by the Central Macedonia branch office of IGME situated in Thessaloniki, Greece (http://thes.igme.gr) and there is also a link in the central web page of IGME (http://www.igme.gr).
